Station Logistics Officer
- The annual base salary when in Australia starts from $89,076 per annum.
- Base salary + additional allowances when in Antarctica starts from $162,012 per annum.
- A generous employer superannuation contribution of up to 15.4% will be paid in addition to salary and allowances.
- You will accrue recreation leave at the equivalent of 20 days per annum pro rata. Please note that recreation leave is not available in Antarctica but will be paid out on return to Australia.
As a Station Logistics Officer (SLO) you will provide critical supply chain management support to the Australian Antarctic program (AAP). You will be responsible for delivering efficient and effective supply and logistics capabilities in support of strategic, operational, and scientific objectives in the Antarctic and sub-Antarctic. Your responsibilities include the preparation and transportation of cargo for sea and air transport, warehousing, station provisions, operational logistics, equipment accounting, and stock control.
SLOs usually fill four winter roles each year (one at each Antarctic station and one at Macquarie Island) and up to three summer roles across up to two Antarctic stations.
A Senior Station Logistics Officer (SSLO) will be selected from the pool of successful Station Logistics Officers and will take on a leadership role, with one SSLO appointed to each station.
This position is designated as performing Safety Sensitive Aviation Activities (SSAA) under the organisation’s Aviation Drug and Alcohol Management Plan (DAMP) and the Civil Aviation Safety Regulations 1998 (CASR Part 99). As a condition of employment, employees performing SSAA are required to comply with all applicable drug and alcohol management requirements.
Senior Station Logistics Officer

The SSLO undertakes all duties of an SLO and is additionally responsible for participating in the Station Leadership Group, attending regular meetings as the representative of the Station Logistics section. Where multiple SLOs are deployed to a station, the SSLO leads the team by providing direction and mentorship, coordinating workloads and workforce planning, and completing regular reporting. Where there is only one SLO on station, the SSLO undertakes these responsibilities independently.

Qualifications/licences
Provide copy with application:
- Forklift Truck (LF) High Risk Work Licence
- Current or recently expired IMDG Dangerous Goods by Sea Full Accept and/or IATA Dangerous Goods by Air Acceptance and/or Defence equivalent qualifications – or evidence of maintained refreshers.
- Driver’s licence – Current, unrestricted “C” class (manual) Australian driver’s licence.
- Citizenship – In accordance with the PS Act 1999, Australian Public Service employees are required to be Australian citizens. Persons who are not Australian citizens will generally only be considered where there are no suitable Australian applicants, with next considerations being Australian residents with work rights and New Zealand citizens.
Obtain prior to commencement:
- Valid Passport – The expiry date of the passport (and any relevant visa) must be at least 6 months beyond the planned end date of your intended stay in the Antarctic or sub-Antarctic.
- Provide First Aid (HLTAID011) must be valid for at least 18 months beyond the date of commencement
- Provide Basic Emergency Life Support (HLTAID010) must be valid for at least 18 months beyond the date of commencement
- Provide CPR (HLTAID009) must be valid for at least 6 months beyond the date of commencement
Knowledge and experience
Within the last 5 years:
- Warehousing and inventory management in a challenging work environment
- Accepting and packing Dangerous Goods for sea and/or air
- Handling, packing, and manifesting of goods for transport
- MS Office Suite (Word, Excel) and extensive system use
- Building professional interpersonal relationships
- Team leadership and/or stakeholder management
- Demonstrated leadership experience and stakeholder management (Senior Station Logistics Officer only)
Highly Desirable - Station Logistics Officer & Senior Station Logistics Officer
These are not essential to the role however to be suitable you will need to have at least some of these. We encourage you to apply even if you do not fit 100% of the requirements.
Knowledge and experience:
- Customs and biosecurity compliance and reporting requirements
- Handling of temperature sensitive items (e.g. biological material)
- Use of cargo management systems and/or asset management systems
- Coordinating waste handling, disposal, and recycling
- Any nationally recognised licences, certificates, units of competency, or statements of attainment relevant to the plant and equipment listed below, along with demonstrated experience:
- Front-end/wheeled loader (LL)
- Skid steer loader (LS)
- Licence to perform high risk work in the following classes, along with demonstrated experience:
- Dogging (DG)
