Salary: $120,290 – $129,379 per annum
Duties:The Assistant Director (EL1) Aviation Compliance and Assurance reports to the Director Aviation (EL2) and forms an integral element of the AAD’s Aviation Section within the wider Operations and Logistics Branch. The role will be responsible for compliance and assurance of all elements of Antarctic Aviation.
The position will provide expert aviation advice to stakeholders relating to CASA and departmental regulations, compliance with BARS, compliance with SOPs, aviation auditing, aviation contract management, aviation budget and invoice management, environmental compliance, WHS compliance and the assurance of safe aviation operations on the ground, ship and whilst airborne in Antarctica and sub-Antarctica.
The position will be required to work in a dynamic environment with a multi-disciplined team. The role requires good communication skills both written and verbal, time management skills and complex problem solving.
Key duties will include, but are not limited to:
- Manage the aviation compliance and assurance within the Aviation Section of the Operations and Logistics Branch
- Manage direct reports in the aviation compliance and assurance stream
- Support the Director Aviation in developing and managing key strategic relationships with a broad range of internal and external aviation stakeholders to ensure Department objectives are met
- Ensure timely and detailed aviation audit planning and reporting
- Ensure timely and detailed aviation input to Initial Environmental Evaluation (IEE), Environmental Management Plans (EMPs) and reports to enable continued aviation operations in Antarctica
- Manage current and future aviation contracts with suppliers
- Ensure timely review and payment of invoices against aviation budget
- In conjunction with the other Aviation section leads (EL1), develop and facilitate the implementation of AAD aviation policy and procedures e.g. aerodrome manuals, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), aviation operations manual and associated documentation.
- Contribute to the development and management of technical and corporate expertise (including relevant SOPs) in the areas of Antarctic aviation compliance and assurance.
- Engage with internal/external stakeholders and contractors to develop and maintain the necessary compliance and assurance framework to ensure safe aviation operations in the AAP
- Liaise with Workplace Health Safety (WHS) and Environmental sections regarding incident and accident reporting via SIRUS and IHIS
- Ensure Aviation risks are identified, and managed as part of the assurance process.
- Maintain an active awareness of contemporary and evolving developments in the field of commercial and Antarctic aviation, including airport operations, passenger and cargo aircraft operations, specialist literature, journals and the work of other National Antarctic Programs
