Duties:This position is part of a small team which conducts fisheries and ecosystem research at the AAD.
Under the broad direction of the Section leader, the position will ensure that comprehensive operational and biological data can be collected from Australia’s fisheries in the remote Southern Ocean and around Antarctica.Who we areThe Australian Antarctic Division (AAD) is part of the Commonwealth Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water. As primary agency for Australia's Antarctic Program (AAP), the AAD is responsible for achieving the Australian Government's Antarctic goals.
Key duties of the role include:
- Maintain and improve existing fisheries data management systems in SQL Server and MS Access
- Develop new data collection and management systems
- Assist in remote technical support for fisheries observers at-sea
- Support the logistics and operations of electronic data-collection equipment on Southern Ocean fishing vessels
- Conduct quality control and archiving of data acquired from the fisheries observer program and research voyages conducted by AAD
