Salary: $124,861 – $134,295 per annum
Duties:The primary function of this role is to coordinate and manage Australia’s Antarctic mapping program.
Under broad direction from the AADC Manager, the specific responsibilities include:
- Manage the generation and delivery of high-level mapping, spatial data, and cartographic products in accordance with relevant Australian and international standards, while also operating and maintaining spatial databases.
- Develop and implement strategies for the long-term curation and management of AADC’s spatial collections within the Enterprise GIS, metadata system and the Feature Type Catalogue.
- Oversee the Australian Antarctic Gazetteer, managing of place name information and providing expert advice to the AAD Place Names Committee
- Lead and coordinate charting quality hypsographic and hydrographic surveying efforts within Australia's Antarctic territories, and provide support for AAD operations.
- Supervise mapping staff, manage performance, identify training and development needs, set priorities, and foster a safe and productive work environment.
- Collaborate with developers to ensure the effective online delivery of geospatial information (e.g. via OGC web services), and overseeing the maintenance and support of GIS software used by the AAD (e.g. ArcGIS and QGIS).
- Represent the AAD in national and international spatial data management forums.
- Support other AADC responsibilities as required.
